The Rotary Club of Oban were delighted to accept the hospitality of the Lorn Clay Target Club to hold what used to be our annual Clay Pigeon Championship on Thursday 25 August.

Tuition and the use of their shotguns was provided by Club members and, following a 40 shot competition, the trophy was won by Steph Lowe, with Tommy McQuade a close second. Steph was also presented with a bottle of Oban 14 year old malt whisky provided by Ciorsti Baxter (Rotary Senior Vice President). The photo shows Rotary President, Lachie Beaton, presenting the prizes to Steph. An excellent evening was had by all despite a bit of weather and we hope to get back to it being an annual event.
Oban Rotary enjoys a very close relationship with the Lorn Clay Target Club which operates near to the Moss Road in North Connel. The Club meets regularly and endeavour's to attract youngsters with a view to training them to compete at national and international level although the prime objective is to establish discipline and confidence in the handling of guns. Rotary meets up with LCTC members once a year to have a "shoot out" against the background of a barbecue with the consistent winner being Rotarian Tommy MacQuade.

Oban Rotary contributes £200 to the cost of cartridges for young recruits and LCTC Chairman Hector MacFadyen is seen here receiving a cheque for this amount from Rotary President Iain Mac Intyre with Rotarians L-R Chris Sutton, Mike Urwin and Billy MacLean also in attendance.
The Rotary Club of Oban as part of its support of youth orientated activities is seen here presenting a cheque for £200 to The Lorn Clay Target Club which operates from near to Moss Road, North Connel.

The club has been in existence for many years and has seen members move on to compete at national and international level. The cornerstone of the club, quite apart from developing youngsters to be able to compete in the many local and national competitions, is to install discipline in the handling of guns along with building up confidence in their progress to competition level.

Oban Rotary President Tommy MacQuade is seen here handing over the funds to Club President Hector MacFadyen and from left to right we have Colin Rowan, William Lockwood, Iain Mac Intyre (Rotary SVP), Tommy MacQuade, Hector MacFadyen, Stewart Campbell, Willie Buchanan, Donnie MacCorquodale, Craig Mac Fadyen, Alan Morrison, John MacKin.
